Dear Drive... What is the difference between no parking, no stopping and no stopping signs?

The rules for these signs are administered by each state and territory, and while they’re largely the same across Australia, there are some subtle differences. Likewise, penalties for ignoring signs can vary, not only from state to state but also from suburb to suburb, depending on what overlords are patrolling our streets looking for those pesky stray parkers.

“No parking sign:
(1) The driver of a vehicle shall not stop on any stretch of road or in an area covered by a No Parking sign unless the driver –
(a) drop off or pick up passengers or goods; and
(b) not leaving the Vehicle unattended; and
(c) complete the dropping or picking up of passengers or goods and proceed as soon as possible and in any event within the required time after stopping.”
