Dear Drive... what is the difference between full time and part time four wheel drive?

This system is simple and effective. While four-wheel drive on asphalt certainly has advantages, it comes with additional components and complexity. A part-time system is less sophisticated and benefits from being durable and proven. It is easily recognized by its 2H (two-wheel drive, high range) and 4H (four-wheel drive, high range) drive modes, as well as 4L (when a low-range transfer case is present).
