Cyberpunk Edgerunners was one of the most beloved new anime adaptations to come out in 2022, with Netflix teaming up with Studio TRIGGER and CD Projekt Red to take viewers on a brand new tour of the technologically advanced locale known as Night City. With the series introducing fans to the tragic lovers known as David and Lucy, it should come as no surprise to see plenty of cosplayers out there continuing to further explore the universe that was first introduced through the video game, Cyberpunk 2077.
While Edge walkers was definitely a hit with fans, with our own review of the series scoring a “5 out of 5” it seems unlikely we’ll see a comeback for these particular characters. The first anime adaptation of the world of Cyberpunk was a fairly “one off” story, and without getting too deep into spoiler territory for readers who haven’t seen Studio TRIGGER’s series, David and Lucy don’t exactly have a happy ending. With the popularity of the anime, CD Projekt Red’s game also saw an increase in players stepping into the world of Night City, with many treated to some Easter eggs from the anime adaptation.
Edge runners forever
An Instagram couple shared their thoughts on the popular Edgerunners, with the end of their romance marking a tragic conclusion to the anime adaptation that became one of the most loved original series to land on Netflix’s streaming service in 2022:
If you haven’t had a chance to dive into the anime version of Night City, you can read a section of our review below that discusses TRIGGER’s great animation on the series:
Studio TRIGGER, who are perhaps best known for their work on, among others Promare, Kill la Kill, and Little Witch Academyshoot here and on all engines Edge walkers feels like their best work to date. There are some truly stunning images along the way and TRIGGER can capture them with ease. Series like Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw star were able to surround their characters with great technology, while at the same time making their protagonists relatable and their technology seem mundane. Edgerunners excels at this, bringing the extraordinary down to earth. The animation here is as energetic and exciting as it takes for a story about androids leaving light-image versions of themselves as they hold a gun bigger than their own arm, and it reminded me of footage from the classic anime movie Red line when I witnessed some of the battles shown here.”
