Of this week AEW dynamite featured a special tribute video in memory of Jay Briscoe. The former ROH World Champion tragically passed away last week at the age of 38 in a car accident in his home state of Delaware, and AEW continued to honor him this week by having Mark Briscoe make his Dynamite debut and take on one of Jay’s biggest rivals in Jay Lethal. While Warner Bros. Discovery officials initially prevented AEW from allowing the Briscoes on television, that mandate has since been lifted.
“It’s special to be able to do this for Jay Briscoe,” said AEW President Tony Khan this week on Busted Open Radio (h/t WrestlingNews.co). “I’m just glad we were able to make it happen. I think it’s going to be a great night tonight on TBS. Jay Briscoe is a great wrestler and he’s a great person. I’ve gotten to know him better in the ring of honor over the past year , and what a great person, and tonight, great to get the chance to honor his legacy It’s going to be the end of an era in some ways, but I think it’s a really special night, and it’s so cool that tonight is Jay’s birthday and we’re doing it all for him on his birthday with his family there. This is the best way we can honor him there and that’s what we’re all trying to do.”

Khan also discussed the special Ring of Honor show taped last week as a tribute to Jay. Khan said the episode will be available on YouTube and HonorClub shortly after this week Dynamite.
“We have a special that consists of classic matches involving Jay Briscoe and the Briscoes and testimonials from his close friends and people who cared about him, and some matches we taped last week with people who wanted to wrestle in memory of Jay Briscoe,” Khan said. “We’ve got a great three hour special. We’re going to post it for free. We’ll post the details and it’ll be on YouTube soon after Dynamite. But we’d kind of mention that and give more info on it and let people know, because a lot of people who watch the TV might not even know that we recorded this thing last week to memorialize Jay’s life that’s why you know we’re going to give a little bit more information on it tonight where I think we’re probably most attention that we’ve ever had on Jay and Mark in their careers, which I think is going to be very special.
