GMSA was founded in 1913 and began its business as a distributor of Chevy Products before later transitioning to the production of GM branded vehicles from Vauxhall, Opel, Suzuki and Isuzu. As part of the comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986, General Motors sold its South African operations with the new entity rebranded as the Delta Motor Corporation. Under license, Delta retained the rights to assemble Opel, Suzuki, and Isuzu products, but with little or no support from GM, the relationship actually became purely transactional.
