Brendan Fraser speaks out at Batgirl test screenings after the movie was canceled

The DC Comics movie franchise has struggled since they embarked on their movie universe in 2016 Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The discourse surrounding that movie slowed the growth of the DC Extended Universe and caused it to go in multiple different directions that weren’t as successful as they had hoped. When the merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery finally went ahead, new CEO David Zaslav promised some big changes, and he certainly delivered. Zaslav would go on to cancel projects like HBO Max’s bat girl and even the under development The miracle twins movie. The cancellation of bat girl was definitely concerning as it was fully filmed and undergoing test screenings. Recently, Zaslav named James Gunn and Peter Safran as DC Studios’ co-CEOs, and during the duo’s presentation, Safran revealed that Batgirl was canceled because it was unwatchable. Now one of the movie’s stars is defending the movie. During a performance on The Howard Stern ShowBrendan Fraser revealed some new information about the test studies.

“I don’t have it. I have friends and colleagues and associates who have seen it. They all say very good things about it. But the point was that it was shown in a garden variety test screening. It was a director’s cut, cut first. It wasn’t finished I don’t know about you but I don’t eat a half baked cake I don’t want to see something that isn’t finished The sad thing is I don’t know if it was judged on merit It wasn’t shown in the best light it could have been I mean yeah once you give a movie to the people and the world yeah it’s open season to criticize it or praise it or whatever you want But this didn’t even really get a fair shake which is disappointing for obvious reasons but also because little girls will now have to wait longer before they can see a batgirl they can identify saying ‘hey she looks just like me too’ In Leslie Grace and she was violence ig. Oh god she was good. Really amazing. She’s a blast. If dynamite comes in small packages, it’s for a reason. She’s a dynamo.”

Gunn and Safran started out as co-CEOs of DC Studios last year, and it’s safe to say DC’s future looks bright. When the duo was announced by the new boss of Warner Bros. Discovery, they released a statement about their enthusiasm for the job.

The next DC Studios movie to hit theaters will be Shazam! Anger of the Gods. Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line describe the film as follows: “Endowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with adult superhero alter egos. But when the daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago.

The film is directed by David F. Sandberg (Shazam!, Annabelle: Creation) and produced by Peter Safran. Anger of the Gods was written by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan. Shazam! Anger of the Gods hits theaters March 17!
