Said to be the only Ferrari FXX engine to be offered to the general public, RM Sotheby’s estimates this rare V12 could sell for up to £350,000 (AU$640,000).
Do you need a new engine for your Ferrari FXX track supercar, or just want to add another interesting piece to your car parts collection?
auction house RM Sotheby’s recently listed the brand new engine of a Ferrari FXX as part of its ‘Garagista Collection’ and estimates that the 6.3-litre V12 could sell for somewhere between £200,000 and £350,000 – the equivalent of around AU$365,000 to 640,000.
The listing claims that it is the first-ever Ferrari FXX engine – codenamed Tipo F140 DA – to be sold as New Old Stock (NOS), complete with its ancillary parts, including air intakes and a wiring harness.
The Ferrari FXX was launched in 2005 as a racing-only version of the Ferrari Enzo, with production initially limited to 29 examples – although the Italian automaker added an additional car to the list for one of its key employees.
Chassis 30 was delivered to seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher after he retired from the sport at the end of the 2006 season. Schumacher and his Ferrari FXX famously appeared in the opening episode of Top Gear 13th series, establishing a lap time on the test track.
Ferrari claimed the FXX’s V12 engine could develop up to 588kW and 686Nm – some 100kW and 40kW more than the Enzo on which it is based – but production of the F140 series continues today, powering the 812 GT car and the upcoming Purosangue SUV.
According to the RM Sotheby’s In the listing, the engine will be boxed to the highest bidder, although the auction house suggests that the V12 “could serve as a fantastic centerpiece in any collection” when properly assembled.
Turning car parts into furniture is not new – numerous foreign companies offer coffee tables based on high-end engines.
Earlier this year, a Ferrari 360 V8 engine that had been converted into a coffee table was sold at a Bonhams Auction in Paris for €22,950 (AU$36,700) – almost a tenth of the lowest estimate for the FXX V12.
The Ferrari FXX engine auction – and all other lots in the “Garagista Collection“ – will be auctioned online between March 22nd and 29th.
