Warner Bros. Discovery underwent a minor overhaul last year after their major merger was completed and it appears to be focusing on tax breaks and finding the right person to run their DC Comics franchise. Newly appointed CEO David Zaslav began his reign by canceling projects like bat girl and The miracle twins and hired James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs of DC Studios. One of the projects the studio confirmed was safe was the upcoming one Blue beetle movie with Xolo Mariduena (Cobra Kai). From now, Blue beetle hits theaters later this year and fans are getting really excited for what’s to come. One fan even created an awesome piece of fan art intended to boost the film’s release.
An artist on Instagram known as @Clements.Ink has created a design that shows off the Blue Beetle costume from the movie. In the fan art, you can see Maridueña in his Blue Beetle suit from the set photos released last year, but he’s not wearing the character’s iconic mask. Everyone, including the artist, seems to be excited about this new entry into the DCU and from the looks of it, it could be a great time. You can check out the fan art below!
The Blue beetle star was cast by fans before finally getting the part. Coming from Cobra Kai fame, the actor thinks the series has prepared him for his role as the DC Comics series. Marindueña revealed this in a recent interview with Variety.
“This is really going to be a springboard in my life,” Maridueña shared in an interview earlier this year. “I’ve had the opportunity over the years to build chemistry with these people on Cobra Kai. It’s going to be hard to recreate that chemistry in a much shorter amount of time, but all of these guys are professionals. I know I” I am in the hands of people who are the best at what they do. The opportunity at Cobra Kai really blessed me; I can do stunts, we can do crazy things. Adding this new level of green screen and suits and CGI and stuff will add a whole new level of crazy to it that I’m so excited about.
Not much is currently known about DC Comics’ Blue Beetle movie, as plot details are being kept far away from The Reach. The film will have a theatrical debut after it was originally intended for HBO Max. The Blue beetle movie is expected to follow Jaime Reyes, who is the third character in the comics to take on the role of Blue Beetle after Ted Kord’s death. The cast also includes Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, Bruna Marquezine as Penny, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carillo and Damián Alcázar as members of Jaime’s family, and Harvey Guillen in a currently unknown role.
Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Hamner, Jaime’s tenure changed the Blue Beetle lore significantly, revealing that the Egyptian scarab that gives the hero powers is actually of alien origin and formed some sort of alien armor. Eventually, Jaime would join the Justice League, Justice League International, Teen Titans, Young Justice, and Secret Six.
