Barbie director Greta Gerwig reveals when she knew Margot Robbie was “magic.”

The Barbie movie hits theaters next summer and is expected to offer a wild and unexpected take on the iconic Mattel toy line. The movie is directed by Lady Bird and Little women directed by Greta Gerwig, and produced by Margot Robbie. As set photos associated with the movie have already broken the internet, each new comment about the movie has only lured fans in more — and Gerwig’s latest news is certainly no exception. A recent Vanity purse profile on Robbie reveals the moment on set when Gerwig recognized Robbie as “magic”, with a bizarre on-screen trick she did during filming.

“One time I wanted to capture Margot in slow motion, but everything else had to go fast, so I went up to her and said, ‘Could you move at 48 frames per second, even though we’re shooting at 24 frames per second and everyone will otherwise move at normal speed?'” Gerwig explained. “She did some calculations behind her eyes and then she did it. She literally moved at a higher frame rate. I don’t know what category that falls into other than magic.”
