Aubrey Plaza’s Saturday Night Live episode has the best ratings of the season

Saturday night live! is gearing up for the launch of half of the hit series’ 48th season in Spring 2023, and it will be very different from previous seasons. One thing that will remain the same is the weekly hosts and musical guests performing. SNL Season 48 announced their first round of hosts and musical guests for the upcoming second half of the season and another one just happens to be Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus, Agatha: Covenant of Chaos). Plaza hosted the episode of last weekend SNL and with Sam Smith as musical guest. Plaza’s episode of the series looks like a big hit with the official numbers coming out. According to Nielsen (via deadline), Plaza’s episode of SNL drew 4.8 million viewers, making it the most watched episode of the season to date. Michael B. Jordan will host this weekend with Lil Baby as musical guest. Hopefully, the duo can continue the viewing streak.

SNL legend Ceicily Strong announced her departure during from SNL The season 47 finale and things in the series will look very different in the upcoming new season. Strong started on SNL in 2012 as a featured player, and was promoted to a regular cast member alongside Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon in 2013, and has remained so ever since. She became best known for her impressions on the series, regularly satirizing political figures including Dianne Feinstein, Jeanine Pirro, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tulsi Gabbard. Weekend Update was also a regular placement for Strong on the series.

Strong previously missed the first few episodes of the current season while performing on her one woman show. Fans were previously unsure if she left the show without mentioning it when she was absent from those episodes’ credits, but she eventually returned. However, her sudden exit has now thrown many for a loop.

Ahead of the season 47 finale in May, there was confirmation from multiple cast members, including Kyle Mooney, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, and Kate McKinnon, that they would be leaving the show. However, more walked out in the following months, including Melissa Villaseñor, Aristotle Athari, Alex Moffat and Chris Redd. Strong leaves Saturday Night Live marks the latest departure, and one that has come as a shock to fans since the middle of the new season.
