At the time, João Gilberto’s ex-wife won the Grammy for best recording of the year with Stan Getz, but the Beatles got the Revelation Artist trophy. The 29-year-old singer, who is a nominee for Best New Artist, became a global phenomenon last year with her massive hit “Engage” — the song set a Spotify record and her daring choreography rocked TikTok with thousands of videos and streams. 100 million times in the weeks following release.
“As a Brazilian and Latino woman, a nomination like this is very representative and fills me with pride,” she says. “I have already conquered much more than I could have ever dreamed of,” he said when he reflected on his journey. “Nothing keeps me up at night regarding my career,” he added. On February 5, Anitta arrives at the Grammys hoping to be nominated as the Best New Artist at the Los Angeles ceremony. She will compete with Omar Apollo, Måneskin and Samara Joy, among others.
